Tuaran Town

The town is around 30 km from Kota Kinabalu and 10 km from the Shangri-la Rasa Ria. It is very much a local town and you won’t see many tourists. However there is good shopping for all sorts of goods. It is a good place to stock up on essential provisions including limited supplies of beer and spirits. You will find several supermarkets (super stores), excellent cake shops, gold and other jewelry and watches, shoes, clothing, gifts and some souvenirs. There are some reasonable eating places. Tuaran is well-known for their Tuaran Mee (noodles).

On the edge of the Main shopping area is a nine-storey Chinese Pagoda and there are several attractions, nearby - A crocodile farm, refreshing waterfalls, a large Bhuddist complex with a well-tended garden for meditative walks. A large tidal lake, Lake Sulaman, is just 10 minutes away from Tuaran, surrounded by Muslim fisher settlements & mangrove swamps. You may tour the lake by boat, managed by Chiswick Villa, a rental home, located on the lake front. Try your hand at fishing or simply laze on an isolated sandy beach that may only be reached by boat.
